NATURE-SDIplus Second Conference
“SDI for Nature Conservation”

jointly organized with
VESTA-GIS Final Conference “A Training Framework for ESDI”

September 29th 2010, Lisbon (PT)

NATURE-SDIplus Conference will take place on 29th September 2010 in Lisbon, Portugal, hosted by the Instituto Geográfico Português (IGP). The conference is organised by the consortium of the NATURE-SDIplus project in the framework of the VESTA-GIS Final Conference.

NATURE-SDIplus (www.nature-sdi.eu) is an eContentplus Best Practice Network aimed at harmonizing INSPIRE data themes on nature conservation through the creation of a NATURE-SDIplus metadata profile and data model.
In the framework of NATURE-SDIplus it has been developed a training task aimed at transferring, to the project Consortium, skills and knowledge needed to participate in the project activities and achieve good results. Moreover, the developed Training Framework, is also used to enroll in the NATURE-SDIplus Network new data providers and in general new members which are expected to give a valuable contribution to the success of the project and the validation of its outcomes.
Training actions in NATURE-SDIplus are developed both through e-learning courses, accessible by the NATURE-SDIplus Training Portal (www.nature-sdi.eu/training), and through workshops and conferences (like the present one), also addressed to external participants, with the aim to enlarge the NATURE-SDIplus Community.

Scope of the Conference
The NATURE-SDIplus Conference is addressed to foster the development of Community on SDI for nature conservation and the involvement of new members in the NATURE-SDIplus Network. The Conference will present main NATURE-SDIplus results such as the data model and metadata profile for nature conservation INSPIRE data themes, the Geoportal and related transformation services. This, with the aim to involve in the final project phase and in the validation of these outcomes stakeholders from the specific sector.
The aim of the workshop will be achieved through training actions aimed at transferring to the project partners and actual or potential members the needed know-how to actively participate in the project activities

Participants
The intended audience for this conferece are the stakeholders dealing with geo-information for nature conservation. They are: INSPIRE Community and INSPIRE Data Specifications experts, Public Administrations, Basic education, Higher education & research, Research, Commercial users, Nature Conservation authorities, technology providers, NGOs.

The NATURE-SDIplus Conference will deal with the following topics:
- Intro to NATURE-SDIplus network and training
- NATURE-SDIplus Data model and metadata profile
- Data transformation and transformation services
- NATURE-SDIplus Geo-portal
- Examples of Good Practices in nature conservation data management

Preliminary Programme

Organizers
Host organization of the conference is the Instituto Geográfico Português (IGP) of Lisbon, partner of NATURE-SDIplus.

The workshop is organized and supported by the NATURE-SDIplus  Project Consortium in cooperation with the VESTA-GIS Project (www.vesta-gis.eu)

The NATURE-SDIplus Conference is co-located with an Open Day organized by the HUMBOLDT project on Tuesday, 28th September 2010. More information for this event is available at: http://www.esdi-humboldt.eu

The joint events, so called "Lisbon ESDI Track 2010",  are free of charge, but a registration for participation is required. Participants can either register for the single event or for all the events in the package.

ECClima congress
ECClima congress

The ECClima congress refers to climate change impacts in estuarine ecosystems issues, being held in Porto (Portugal), 5-9 April 2011.

Scope of the congress:
ECClima project’s goal is to predict climate change impacts, namely temperature rise, on the ecophysiology and production of estuarine organisms. Focus is made on abundant species common to a wide geographic area, in three estuaries, Minho (Portugal) in the south, the Wadden Sea (The Netherlands) at intermediate latitude, and Skibotn, Tromso (Norway) in the north, and hence covering a large latitudinal range.
The conference will cover relevant subjects, as Trophic interactions, Molecular Evolution, Eco-physiology, Dynamic Energy Budgets modelling, Phylogeography studies, Population dynamics modelling and Integrated Coastal Zone Management in estuaries.

Scientific commission includes Dr. Henk van der Veer (NIOZ, The Netherlands), Prof. Audrey Geffen (Bergen University, Norway), Prof. Bas Kooijman (Amsterdam Vrije University).

A special issue of the Journal of Sea Research, in order to publish the most relevant articles presented in the congress is also being planned.

All the available information is now accessible on the internet at http://www.cimar.org/ECClima.
